Beautiful French Châteaux
The range of châteaux in France is immense. Whether you are looking to stay in one, dine at one, get married in one or just visit one, their grandeur and beauty is breath-taking.
Often a wine estate is known as a Château, the period building may not have turrets and a moat but being set in the midst of hectares of vines, they stand majestic under blue skies whilst the grapes slowly ripen in the vineyards!
Here is a small selection of the ones we have stayed in or visited over the years!
Chateau les Carrasses
Chateau les Carrasses, in the Languedoc Roussillion, not far from Capestang, Beziers and the Canal du Midi, is a Chateau that has been sympathetically converted into self catering accommodation including apartments and independent villas. It sits in the middle of its own wine estate and is a great base from which to explore the Languedoc.
Chateau des Demoiselles
For our 25th anniversary we rented a small chateau in Provence called Chateau des Demoiselles. They produce their own wine , rosé, of course, red and white. The interior of the chateau is stunning, 6 ensuite bedrooms and a superb pool. The real bonus was having our own supply of chlled rosé on tap!
Chateau de Cazenac
In all my years that I have visited and spent in France, I had never visited the Dordogne!
A few years ago, my niece decided to get married in a French Chateau and settled on a ‘fairy tale’ setting at Chateau de Cazenac not far from Bergerac. The landscape, the river and the ancient villages were stunning. The chateau was perfect, hired in its entirety, complete with several beautiful houses in the grounds, the wedding was celebrated over several days, a truly memorable and magical weekend in the Dordogne!
Chateaux galore…
One of the regions totally blessed with wonderful châteaux is the Loire Valley including the beautiful towns of Saumur, Tours and Angers. Chateaux and wine…a perfect combination of history and culture!
