French country kitchen style…
The essence of French lifestyle is eating and socialising. The art of cooking and entertaining is fundamental to the French way of life. There’s no doubt that the French kitchen is the heart of the home.
When we think of a French kitchen, the majority of us will conjure up a vision of a French country kitchen. The archetypal French country kitchen is simple but well equipped with traditional accessories often proudly displayed on open shelves. The simple mix of rustic materials such as wood, enamel, earthenware and copper are an essential combination to achieving the French country kitchen feel.
Tips for a quintessential French country style kitchen….
- Plan for unfitted units or at least a few unfitted pieces eg. freestanding armoire or butcher’s block.
- Minimise the number of fitted wall units and instead opt for open shelves and or a plate rack, glasses shelf or spice rack.
- Choose natural materials for floors, work surfaces, the sink and accessories : stone, terracotta, wood, ceramics, enamel, wrought iron, glass
- If you have space make your table the centrepiece of the room
- Invest in good quality earthenware, for jugs, bowls and other accessories
- Choose timeless style kitchen linen (teatowels, aprons and oven gloves)…gingham, ticking stripe or linen with a monogram detail
Your kitchen should be the perfect mix of form and function….a place to enjoy, preparing food for the people you like spending time with!
